The JRC is providing factual support to the EU Raw Material Initiative COM(2008)699  and, in particular, to the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on Raw materials  and its related Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) . Such plan is composed of a comprehensive set of Research and Innovation actions under three pillars: technology, non-technology and international cooperation.
In support to the SIP technological pillar, JRC is coordinating activities related to:

  • Substitution of raw materials / materials for green technologies and energy technologies (JRC-IET, SETIS website )

In support to the SIP non-technological pillar, JRC is coordinating activities related to:

In support to the SIP international cooperation pillar, JRC is coordinating activities related to:

  • Statistics, remote sensing and information technologies for monitoring trade and production of diamonds
  • Facility to support the Kimberley Process & crisis preparedness response , also in the context of the so-called “conflict minerals”
