The Africa Union (AU) Commission and the European Commission (EC) have organized an AU-EU joint session on Infrastructure for the mineral sector. This joint session will take place in Brussels on March 19-20, 2015.
The aim of the joint session is to discuss the infrastructure needs of the mineral sector in Africa and identify ways in which these needs can be fulfilled in the broader context of existing and planned infrastructure projects and networks.
The African mineral resources sector provides high potential and opportunity of generating growth and jobs in the mining industry and as an input for industrial production and manufacturing. At the same time, the EU Raw Materials Initiative aims at ensuring undistorted sustainable supply of raw materials for the European economy and foresees in its international cooperation pillar supporting Africa in developing its raw materials potential.
